Yin Yoga (Long, Slow & Deep)
Yin Yoga is the perfect compliment to our Hatha (Yang) Yoga classes. In the words of Sarah Powers, the creator of Yin Yoga: "Yin Yoga (unlike Hatha Yoga which strengthens and stretches the superficial layers of muscles) encourages long held floor
poses to enhance the Chi or energy distribution through the Yin parts of the body, namely the bones and connective tissues that bind them. These mainly static postures coax Chi into the respective Meridians (the unseen riverbeds of energy the Chi travels through), thereby encouraging a kind of needle-less acupuncture treatment. This style of practice, done slowly and safely, nourishes the natural range of motion of the joints. It also flushes the meridians housed in these connective tissues, which directly effect/enhance particular organs in the process. Restoring the flow of Chi within us has a direct impact on our psychological states, encouraging increased ease of being and relaxation." Both of our Yin Yoga teachers, Sarah Corbett and Trish Flynn have studied directly with Sarah Powers. Yin Yoga is suitable for people of all different ages, sizes, different levels of flexibility, strength and yoga experience. Pregnant women in their first trimester as well as Beginners are welcome.
